Skydiver takes the plunge for charity

A former patient took a perilous plunge to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit at the QE Hospital.

Mary Totton, 29, completed a skydive from 15,000 feet recently and has raised £800 for QE Charitable Funds.

Mary was a patient at the QE’s Special Care Baby Unit in April 1990 after she was born 8 weeks premature. She returned to the unit today to thank the staff, alongside her mam Susan James, and to give them her fundraising.

Mary said: "A sky dive is something I've always wanted to do and I’m so pleased I did – the experience was fantastic. I really wanted to fundraise for the SCBU as the staff were amazing to me and my mam when I was born, it was brilliant being able to give something back.”
